Oakland A’s Players Furious Teammate Kila Ka’aihue Is Let Go Right Before He Has Twins

The clubhouse for the Oakland Athletics had some unhappy players on Friday after it was announced that just four days after being named first baseman for the team, Kila Ka’aihue has been designated for assignment.

And the timing couldn’t be much worse for  Ka’aihue.

While the A’s replaced him with former Triple-A player Brandon Moss, Ka’aihue’s livelihood is in jeopardy, made worse because his wife is due to give birth to twins any day now.

A’s manager Bob Melvin said the roster shake-up was a necessary move that would benefit the team, and assistant GM David Forst pointed out that Ka’aihue has struggled against right-handed pitchers — and since Oakland is set to face four of them in a row, it made sense to bring in Moss now.

But the other players aren’t convinced, with one calling the explanation “total horse***” and many wondering why the A’s didn’t just wait and put Ka’aihue on paternity leave — an option built into the collective bargaining agreement.

For his part, Ka’aihue left the clubhouse without speaking to reporters, and Melvin called him a “class act” for how he handled the news.

So, what happens to Ka’aihue now? The A’s have 10 days to either trade, release or place him on waivers. We vote for sending him to Minnesota — you know, the Twins.
