Despite an ordinance in the city of Missoula prohibiting fireworks, little explosions can be heard every year around the 4th of July. Rather than have calls flood 911, the community has set up a fireworks report line.

"It's going to be active starting tonight [June 30] and running through next Tuesday [July 4], said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. "People can call and report their complaints about fireworks and we ask that they do so, dispatchers will then broadly dispatch those complaints and officers in the area that are free and available will respond. The number is 258-4850."

It's important to remember that even in the city of Missoula, many types of "novelty" fireworks are allowed, these include things like party poppers, snappers, toy smoke devices, snakes and glow worms, and sparklers.
