The Governor’s Office of Community Service and the Montana Commission on Community Service is now accepting nominations for the 2014 ServeMontana Awards.

Outreach coordinator for the Governor’s Office of Community Service, Marissa Perry said on Wednesday, October 9, that Governor Steve Bullock wants to honor both individuals and organizations for their service to local communities.

“Some examples might include those working in education, health, environmental stewardship, veterans and military families or disaster services and emergency preparedness,” Perry said. “We’re encouraging the public to nominate people of all ages and backgrounds, although all services must be performed in Montana or by a Montanan.”

Perry said with the fires in Western Montana this summer, there may be some in those communities that might be singled out for recognition.

“Those that work for volunteer fire departments, or who lend a hand by providing food and shelter. those are the type of volunteers we’re looking for,” Perry said.

The website to nominate a volunteer is linked here, and Perry said the deadline to submit nominations is December 2, 2013.

“The volunteers will be recognized at a special ceremony in Helena in February, after they are notified sometime in January,” she said.
