A 27-year-old Missoula man accused of sharing a small amount of his medical marijuana has been sentenced to two years in prison followed by 18 years of supervision by the state Department of Corrections.

District Judge Dusty Deschamps on Tuesday sentenced Matthew Otto, who was convicted in March of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs. The judge described the offense as "Mickey Mouse" but said he considered Otto's extensive criminal history in weighing the sentence.

Otto was found guilty of smoking a bowl — in this case, 3 grams — of the drug while traveling in a car with two friends in Missoula last November. A sheriff's detective says he saw the driver smoking from a pipe and reported the incident.

The Missoulian reports Otto has nearly 30 juvenile convictions and multiple theft and parole violation convictions as an adult.
