The Jesus statue that sits on top of Big Mountain in Whitefish is the subject of yet another lawsuit. This time, a group called the Freedom From Religion Foundation is challenging the recent renewal of the special use permit given by the forest service to the Knights of Columbus. Co-President of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Annie Lorie Gaylor explains the reason for the lawsuit.

Congressman Denny Rehberg has been a strong supporter of the statue and believes it deserves to stay where it is. Rehberg has worked to arrange a land swap between Big Mountain and the Forest Service and spoke at the special permit renewal hearings. Mr. Rehberg argues his position.

It's difficult to say what the outcome of the lawsuit will be, but one thing is for sure, there are strong opinions on both sides of the issue.
