Nevada Rancher Cliven Bundy Speaks at Gathering in Paradise
On Saturday, Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy appeared in Paradise, Montana to address a crowd of nearly 200 supporters and spoke of his fight with state and federal authorities over his arrest and imprisonment concerning grazing rights for his cattle.
Bundy was the final speaker at the event that lasted over three hours at the Paradise Community Center. Bundy described what her termed his ’15 second defense’ to the charges against him.
“I have a 15 second defense,” Bundy began. “You know, I’ve talked to all these attorneys and everybody said, ‘Bundy, you’re crazy, a 15 second defense’? That’s all I have is a 15 second defense. That’s all I’ve ever said I had. Let me tell you my 15 second defense, that I grazed my cattle only on Clark County, Nevada land.”
Bundy identified the one government official he holds ultimately responsible for his legal troubles.
“I could be mad at Obama, I could be mad at my sheriff, I could be mad at my county commissioners, I could be mad at the governor of the state of Nevada, but I’m not really mad at any of those people,” he said. “I’m mad at my state brand inspector. You know, I paid my taxes and I pay an annual fee to renew my brand certification.”
On January 8, Judge Gloria Navarro dismissed with prejudice all charges against Cliven Bundy and his sons, severely criticizing prosecutors for willful violations of defendants' due process rights, including failing to properly turn over evidence to their lawyers.
Bundy spoke at the gathering sponsored by the Coalition of Western Property Owners.
