Muppets, Gay Rights and the Chicken Sandwich Firestorm

The COO of fast food restaurant Chick-Fil-A brought down the righteous judgment of not only the Mayors of Boston and Chicago, but also The Muppets. It all started when COO Dan Cathy was interviewed for The Ken Coleman Show and said this:

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage' and I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about"

Shortly after the incendiary statement, the Jim Henson company's CEO Lisa Henson posted the following post on Facebook.  "The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors," the post reads. "Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD."

Chick-Fil-A says that the toys were recalled by Chick-Fil-A over safety concern one day before the homosexual marriage controversy began.

Now, former Obama administration official  Mayor Rahm Emanuel has come out saying that "Chick-Fil-A's values are not Chicago's values." Chicago city alderman Proco Moreno followed up by saying that he will block Chick-Fil-A from setting up a planned restaurant in his ward, which has sparked outcries that the city is blocking free speech.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has also added his two-cents to the controversy. First saying that he would do "everything I can do to stop them." He recently stepped back from that remark and says he "was mostly using the bully pulpit of being mayor of the city and getting public support. But I didn’t say I would not allow them to go for permits or anything like that. I just said we would do everything we can, bully pulpit-wise.”

Comedian Rosanne Barr added more fuel to the fire by tweeting “anyone who eats [curse word] Fil-A deserves to get the cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ." After a stream of angry comments over the tweet Rosan Barr modified her comment saying “christian liars: i never wished cancer on you at all-jesus will punish u 4 ur deceit-I said processed foods cause cancer- #chickfilA. “
