Investigators believe that the mountain lion that reportedly stalked a four-year-old girl at the Harper's Lake Campground last week was recently discovered outside a home near the river watch trail north of the lake.

The lion attacked a family dog and Fish, Wildlife and Parks was called in to deal with the cat. FWP spokeswoman Vivica Crowser says that the lion was treed by a dog owned by wildlife specialist Bob Wiesner who has been tracking the lion for over a week with his dog Spinner.

Vivica Crowser on the mountain lion's death:

Wiesner and FWP Biologist Jay Kolbe managed to kill the lion. The dog that was attacked by the mountain lion was still alive and was taken to a vet in Missoula, but Crowser had not heard back about the dog's condition as of this morning.
