BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Eighteen of the 80 tenured and tenure-track faculty at the College of Engineering at Montana State University are women.

They represent 22 percent of the engineering faculty, the highest portion of female engineering faculty in university history.

Engineering Dean Brett Gunnink tells the Bozeman Daily Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1QJpWZA ) that his college has grown so rapidly that it has been easier to hire more women in a short time.

Roughly half the college's new hires in the past five years, about 10 out of 20 new faculty members, have been female.
