The Montana Department of Revenue has finished assessing private property values and will be sending mail to Montana property owners during the month of July. The mail will include the taxable amount of each property assessed. Property Assessment Division Administrator Cynthia Monteaumoore says that for most of Montana, property values haven’t changed much since they were last calculated in 2009.

"Generally there was not a significant change like there was in the 2009 reappraisal cycle," Monteaumoore said. "There were slight changes throughout the state but overall the property value remained relatively stable."

If a property owner believes the state has valued their property either too high or too low, they are advised to contact a local revenue office.

"We have what we call a form AB-26 which is an informal review of their property," Monteaumoore said. "One of our appraisers would set up a meeting to meet with them, visit their property, and go over the property information that we have on file which we use to value their property."

In the past, Montana property was assessed every six years, but new legislation from the 2015 legislature has shifted the schedule back to a two year cycle. The next assessment will be done in 2017. For more information visit their website.
