Have you ever wondered what you are suppose to do when a school bus is stopped? Well we have some important information for Montana drivers.

According to AAA and their school bus laws for each state. For Montana they have: The driver of a vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus that has stopped on the highway or street to receive or discharge any children: (1) must stop not less than 10 feet before reaching the school bus when the flashing red signal is in operation; and (2) may not proceed until the children have entered the school bus or have alighted and reached the side of the highway or street and until the school bus ceases operation of the flashing red signal.

Another common questions is when the red lights are flashing do BOTH ways of traffic have to stop if there is a median?

AA continued by saying that if you are driving on a separate roadway you do NOT need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus that is on a different roadway. ( So if there is a median)

This info came from the DMV and states that for Montana : Red flashing lights warn drivers to stop before reaching the school bus BUT if you meet a school bus that has stopped on the other side of a divided highway with a median strip, you do not need to stop.
