Montana officials are watching Idaho closely as  trapping season for wolves started yesterday.  Snares and leg-holds are being set in the first trapping season since wolves were re-introduced. Defenders of  Wildlife spokesman Daniel Gaillard says they are concerned that the traps will catch species other than wolves.

Gaillard says the Canada lynx shares habitat with wolves in the trapping regions, and they are attracted to the types of bait used in wolf traps. Wolverines and pet dogs are also at risk. As of now, Montana has no plans a trapping season.
