Producer Gerald Molen is probably best known for his work on hits like "Schindlers List," "Jurassic Park," and "Rain Man," but Molen will be bringing a very different sort of production to Missoula this Friday.

The movie, "2016: Obama's America" will be playing at the Village 6 (see showtimes) on Friday, Aug. 24 and has already been open in some theaters since Aug. 19.

In its opening week, 2016 was only viewable at 61 theaters, but has since expanded to 164 allowing it to rake in $1.2 million dollars, a feat only bested by one other non-nature documentary this year (Bully had $3.2 million).

Molen lives near Bigfork, Montana and describes himself as a "conservative in this day and age." So far, the movie is widely championed by political conservatives to such an extent that it has already grossed more all other conservative documentaries except for "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed."

In her article Box Office Report: Anti-Obama Doc Drawing Big Crowds, Even in New York City, Pamela McClintock of The Hollywood Reporter shows that 2016 is even doing strong business in areas of the country often accused of being "liberal," like New York City. :

"Obama's America was the No. 3 film of the weekend behind The Dark Knight Rises and Total Recall at Union Square, prompting at least one film executive to joke that people must have thought it was a pro-Obama documentary (New York is the No. 1 city when it comes to the amount of giving to the Obama campaign).

Moreover, Union Square turned in the second-best gross of any theater in the country after a multiplex in Simi Valley.

Last weekend, Obama's America fell only 40 percent at the Union Square theater."

The movie is a follow up to author Dinesh D'souza's book "Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream," and follows D'Souza as he travels the globe speaking to individuals with ties to President Obama (like Obama's brother for example) or with Obama's associates.

The polarizing film currently has an 81% "fresh" favorable rating on metacritic rating site Rotten Tomatoes.
