A Billings man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing an Illinois man who was robbed, kidnapped, shot in the head and beaten with a shovel so violently that it broke.

Twenty-nine-year-old Simon Elliot Jacobson will not be eligible for parole under the terms of state District Judge Gregory Todd's sentence Friday.

Jacobson pleaded guilty in June to kidnapping, homicide and robbery charges.

He and an accomplice posed as FBI agents to kidnap Dejuan Laster of Rockford, Ill., from his Billings motel room in January 2013. After robbing Laster of $8,000, they drove him to a remote area outside Billings where Jacobson killed him and stashed his body in a culvert.

Jacobson received an additional 50 years in prison for 11 Montana casino robberies prior to Laster's killing.
