The Montana statewide average for the cost of gasoline is $2.75 today, June 22, which is 3.5 cents higher than last week.

"Recently, there have been some refinery problems in Utah, but those seem to be healing up right now," Gasbuddy.com Petroleum Analyst Will Speer said. "The rest of the United States had been hurting from Midwest refinery problems, and traditionally, the Montana market lags a couple weeks behind the national trend. As those refineries start to heal, Montana will start to see the benefit of that."

According to Speer, Montana may not have to wait very much longer for a decrease.

"Usually you don't want to call it right before July 4th because there is a lot of demand there," Speer said. "I think you can start to see them stabilize early July, and more of a significant downturn after the July 4th holiday."

Even with the slight increase over the week, Montana gas prices are still 83 cents less at the tank than last year.
