Over the past week, the average price for a gallon of gas in Montana has fallen more than six cents and is well on it's way to a four-year record low.

"Montana will likely join the club of states that are staying under $3 prices here in the next week or so," said gasbuddy.com petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Missoula prices, among the cheapest in the state, with the Costco station charging just $2.93. Meanwhile, the national average only declined five cents. So finally, Montana is really catching up to the decreases we've been seeing."

Prices are expected to keep falling through mid-November at least

"Prices in Montana are not quite at the lowest level since 2010, but likely we'll soon get there in the next couple weeks," DeHaan said. "Prices will probably drop another four to seven cents per gallon over the next week, so that will put Montana in the upper $2.90 per gallon range."

If Montana’s average price falls below $2.97, it will be lower than it has been since 2010.
