The Motor Vehicle Services Division at the Montana Department of Justice announced yesterday that they are modernizing their payment systems. Attorney General Tim Fox explains.

"The newest thing we have done is, believe it or not, you couldn't use a credit or debit card at our exam station," said Fox. "I got some friends that are not shy about calling me, saying ‘I didn't bring a checkbook and I made an appointment and got there and low and behold I couldn't pay for it so I had to start all over again.’ That is pretty upsetting to a guy like me because I am kind of a techie."

According to Fox, credit and debit card payment availability should be offered statewide soon.

"We just rolled it out this week in Helena and we should shortly have it available across the state as our exam station staffers get up to speed on how to use this new availability," Fox said.

The new credit card machines will accept debit cards as well as MasterCard and Visa credit cards. Cash and check will still be accepted.
