In a recent study by Consumer Reports, Montana's Billings Clinic was tested to find out how it performed in the area of safety. Over 1,100 hospitals in 44 states were studied for the report, which found that the Billings Clinic outperformed all of the other institutions. The Billings clinic was given a score of 72 out of 100 and barely beat four hospitals with a score of 71. The famed Mayo Clinic was also included in the study and came in 7th with a score of 70. The report written by Kevin McCarthy and titled Top 10 Hospitals in Our New Safety Ratings used a rubric of six safety measures  including "hospital-acquired infections, re-admissions, communication about new medications and discharge, overuse CT scanning, complications, and mortality."
