A modular home just off Mullan Road was virtually destroyed by fire on Thursday morning.

Deputy Chief Chris Newman with Missoula Rural Fire said the call came in just after 10 a.m. on Josephine Court at the Katoonah Lodge.

"When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming out of the exterior," Newman said. "There was a porch and deck area that was fully involved, and unfortunately, the fire had traveled into the attic area and so the crews had their hands full getting to to the fire and knocking it down."

Newman said the home was near to a total loss.

"There was extensive damage on the home, and if I had to make a determination right now, I would probably lean that way," he said.

Newman said one firefighter sustained a minor injury while fighting the fire.

"We did have one firefighter who sustained a shoulder injury, and was heading in to have it checked out," Newman said. "However, it was not a life-threatening injury."

Newman said some neighbors spotted the fire which had somehow gotten started outside the structure, and were able to notify the residents, so they escaped any injuries.

. The Red Cross had been notified, however, Newman said the residents had family nearby who were able to take them in.
