Governor Steve Bullock announced a grant awarded to the No Kid Hungry campaign today from Share our Strength. Director of No Kid Hungry Lisa Lee explains how the program helps children in Missoula.

"For Missoula in particular, we work with schools that are interested in expanding school breakfast, expanding participation in summer meals, and after school meal programs," Lee said. "So, whenever there is a school or other organization on board for any of those efforts, we work with the,m to get stuff done."

This $237,000 grant is a large increase from the $100,000 dollar grant they received last year, but they already have plans with where this money will go.

"We have a lot of plans," Lee said. "The first is to build capacity with our staffing because then we are able to do more, but a lot of it is held back for grants to give back to our targeted communities."

As a condition of the grant, the Montana No Kid Hungry campaign must raise matching funds. The organization has already made significant progress toward that goal through funds raised by the Round it Up Montana program, private donations from businesses such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, and a grant awarded to operate the Montana No Kid Hungry AmeriCorps Program.
