A male student was taken into custody Monday afternoon at Williard Alternative High School after a handgun was found in his backpack. Hellgate High School

Resource Officer Jim Johnson placed the student into custody just before 2 pm. The school was placed in lockdown for a short period of time. I spoke with Missoula County Public Schools Public Affairs Director Leslie Brasfield about the incident. That interview is attached, along with a subsequent interview with Missoula Police Corporal Mick McCarthy.

Corporal McCarthy says the 18 year-old suspect was cited for having a weapon at school, a misdemeanor. Both Brasfield and McCarthy emphasized that no one was injured during the incident.
