A 25-year-old man who pleaded guilty to criminal endangerment after his girlfriend died of a drug overdose in his Missoula apartment has been ordered to stay away from drugs and alcohol for 10 years.

District Judge Karen Townsend sentenced Kenneth Cadieux on Tuesday to 10 years under the supervision of the Department of Corrections with eight years suspended.

Cadieux says 23-year-old Riley Rochelle Boyer was taking methadone and both of them snorted a prescription painkiller that was ground up. On the morning of March 2, he left for his job, and his roommate called a few hours later to report Boyer was dead.

Court records say Boyer's 4-month-old son was found crying next to the body. Her family specifically sought the prohibition on drugs and alcohol.
