MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The Missoula County Sheriff's Department says a Missoula man died Sunday after being hit by a train traveling about 50 mph.

Detective Jason Johnson tells the Missoulian the man in his 20s or 30s was attending the Love Your Mother Earth festival at Rock Creek Lodge. Police responded about 6 a.m. after a report of a body on the tracks.

Johnson says it's not known exactly what happened, and the Montana Rail Link engineer didn't recall hitting anything. Johnson says officers will review video footage from the train.

About 1,000 people are attending the festival. Officials say Montana Rail Link on Saturday requested the sheriff's department patrol the area after engineers reported festival goers playing chicken with passing trains.

The man's name hasn't been released.
