An early Saturday morning one-vehicle crash that occurred near mile marker 33 on I-90 not far from St. Regis has resulted in one man being sent to St. Patrick Hospital in critical condition, while the driver was arrested and charged with felony negligent vehicular assault.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Zachary Rehbein said that the vehicle, a Dodge Neon, was eastbound at the time of the crash.

"The vehicle hit the guardrail on the left-hand side of the highway," Rehbein said. "There were two male occupants in the vehicle. The passenger, a 22 year-old Missoula resident, was taken to St. Patrick Hospital in critical condition, while the driver is now in custody in the Mineral County jail, charged with negligent vehicular assault. The driver, a 22 year-old man, had an outstanding warrant out of Cascade County."

Rehbein said that both of the men were wearing their seat belts, and that the driver suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the Mineral County Jail. The crash is still under investigation.
