Missoula Man Gets 12 Years in Meth Case

A 28-year-old Missoula man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for distributing methamphetamine in Butte, Helena and Great Falls.

The Missoulian reports U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen sentenced James Tyrone Davis on Thursday in Missoula.

The investigation into Davis began in April 2012 when the Missoula Drug Task Force received a tip that he was bringing large quantities of meth from a source in Washington state into Montana.

The next month, Davis was stopped by the Montana Highway Patrol near Superior. A search of his vehicle turned up 400 grams, or just over 14 ounces, of pure methamphetamine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tara Elliott argued that the purity of the meth implicated Davis as a key player in Montana's drug trade.
