John Jay Freeman, 38, was arrested on Sunday, October 27, at the Howard Apartments and charged with felony criminal mischief. During his arrest, police officers used their taser weapons on Freeman twice before subduing him.

According to court documents, Freeman's downstairs neighbors complained that water from his apartment had come through the ceiling onto their floor. Police officers and the Missoula Fire department responded and attempted to contact Freeman, who yelled curses through the door. Officer Pete Woods kicked down the door, and when Freeman came towards him, Woods deployed his taser in freeman's abdomen. Eventually, Freeman had to be tased twice before he was transported to the Missoula County jail.

Freeman had jammed clothing into the sink and turned on the water, resulting in the flooding that damaged both his and the apartment below. The Howard Apartments are located at 147 West Main.

Freeman appeared via video from the Missoula County jail before Judge Karen Orzech and was charged with felony criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Judge Orzech set bail at $10,000, and returned Freeman to the jail.
