A fifty-five Year old man was arrested Wednesday night after giving officers a bit of a chase.

The Montana Highway Patrol stopped Missoula resident Kermit Morris around 8:15 pm after what started as a traffic violation but then quickly led to more. Public Information Officer Travis Welsh had more details.

“He should appear this afternoon in justice court as it was his apparent fourth offense with a DUI, which makes it a felony,” Welsh said. “At present he is being held on the fourth or subsequent DUI criminal contempt as he had a warrant out for his arrest, reckless driving, failure to carry or exhibit insurance, and a stop sign violation.”

Morris was originally stopped at the intersection of Howell and North Russel but made things challenging for officers.

“The officer made contact with the driver asked him to identify himself,” Welsh said. “The male gave a vague response and the vehicle was actually reported in connection with some other crimes so the officer asked the driver to step out of the car and rather than do that he put it in gear and drove off.”

This was Morris’s fourth charge driving under the influence and it will be charged as a felony.
