A Missoula man, Richard Sturgeon, 47, was arrested Monday morning, November 25, after allegedly brandishing a handgun and pointing it at another man after a road rage incident on North Reserve Street.

Detective Sergeant Travis Welsh said the victim, identified in court documents as Barton Rouns, 60, called police to report the incident.

“Just before 8 o’clock on Monday morning, officers were called to the 3700 block of North Reserve to meet a male who claimed that another male, Sturgeon, had pointed a handgun at him after a road rage incident,” Welsh said. “The incident seemed to begin at the intersection of Reserve and Brooks. They were northbound on Reserve culminating at the 3700 block, at which point one male pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the other male.”

Court documents indicate Sturgeon spoke to Rouns and said “One more time, I’m going to kill you,” and then “every God damned day.”

Rouns gave police a description of Sturgeon’s truck, and police found the vehicle with a black handgun still on the dash.

Welsh said Sturgeon was arrested and accused of a felony.

“He’s been arrested for felony assault with a weapon, but it remains to be seen what he’ll be charged with,” Welsh said. “That decision will come from the Missoula County Attorney.”

Sturgeon denied the incident happened, and that Rouns only saw the handgun on the dash of his truck.

Welsh said no one was injured in the incident.
