Open enrollment for health insurance begins Saturday, November 15, and the Missoula Indian Center is Hosting a public enrollment fair at the Missoula County Fairgrounds on Saturday.

Leanne Johnson is the Director of the Missoula Indian Center. The enrollment event is from noon to 4 p.m. at the Missoula County Fairgrounds Home Arts building.

"It's an open event for anyone in the community, but we're really targeting the Native American population," Johnson said. "We'll be providing an opportunity to find out what kind of health insurance is available, how much it will cost, and for all natives who are enrolled in a recognized tribe to come in and get their exemption form for taxes, so they are not penalized if they do not have health insurance."

Johnson also wants the native population to take note that the Indian Health Service is not health insurance.

"They can bring their tribal enrollment information, and if they have some form of proof of income," she said. "This could just be part of a shopping day for them just to see the different packages and how much they are. They don't have to sign up that day, but it's important for the native population to be informed."

Anyone with questions is asked to contact the Missoula Indian Center at 829-9515, and ask for Troy or Jennifer.

Johnson said there is no charge for the enrollment fair, and soup will be served for all who attend.
