At the end of the last fiscal year, the Missoula County Risk fund was in pretty dire straits, Missoula County Chief Financial Officer Andrew Czorny explains.

"We were $817,443 in the red as primarily due to some large claims that we paid out in the amount of $1.94 million," said Czorny. "What we did was raise Judgment levy for three years and that helped bolster the funding."

Czorny says the Judgment levy, combined with less expenditures from the risk fund have helped push the county’s risk fund back into the black.

"We only hit $124,000 worth of claims this past year," Czorny said. "The two combined brought the fund back above water. We start the year at $207,580 in the good."

Although the risk fund is over $200,000, Czorny says the goal is to have it at around one million dollars and that he hopes to reach that mark by the end of 2018.
