Missoula County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jason Johnson says an employee of the County Detention Center has been terminated for alleged use of excessive force.

Johnson says the as yet unidentified officer was placed on administrative leave on November 3rd pending completion of an allegation of excessive use of force on an inmate.

The Professional Standards Division of the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department conducted two investigations, one administrative and one criminal.  Upon completion of the administrative investigation the detention officer’s employment with Missoula County was terminated on November 23rd.

The sheriff’s department advised the county attorney’s office of the pending criminal investigation.  That investigative file is expected to be completed and provided to the county attorney’s office on Thursday.

The former detention officer's name and the nature of the excessive force allegedly used has not been made public.
