Two missing canoeists were found safe after their craft overturned in the Clark Fork River upstream from the fishing access site near Turah late on Saturday afternoon.

Public Information Officer for the Missoula County Sheriff's Office, Brenda Bassett, said some rafters reported seeing the overturned canoe with some backpacks near Turah just after 5:30 p.m.

"Search and Rescue personnel said they had received a report from some rafters that they had seen a canoe go past them a few hours before, and they came upon the canoe that had overturned along with a few backpacks," Bassett said. "They didn't know if the two canoeists might have been swept downstream, or if they had just left their boat. It turns out that they had indeed left their boat because it had overturned, but they were found safe."

Bassett provides more details on the two canoeists.

"The two males in their 20's had walked in to town, and the woman whose house where they showed up called and reported they were safe," she said.

Bassett said no one was injured in the incident.
