At around 7:40 Monday night, Missoula Police received a report that a man was causing trouble at Southgate Mall. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says there was a weapon involved in the incident.

“Officers responded to the report of a male causing a disturbance inside the mall,” Welsh said. “At one point during his contact with mall employees, after he had left the building, he turned back toward the inside and did show an employee a fixed blade knife, which caused the employee to fear for his safety.”

According to Welsh, officers arrived after the man had already left the building. However, officers did notice the man running in a parking lot nearby.

“An officer did catch up to him and attempted to take him into custody, but the man, identified as 25-year-old Dustin Russette, resisted arrest and had to be taken to the ground,” Welsh said. “Several officers were needed to actually get him into handcuffs. He is being held on charges related to not only the disturbance, but also the confrontation with the officers.”

Russette is now facing a handful of charges including felony assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.
