Man Pleads Guilty to Looting Evacuated Home
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A Roundup-area man has pleaded guilty to looting a house south of Roundup in June after its occupants left because of a wildfire in the Bull Mountains.
The Associated Press reports 27-year-old Eric Aafedt recently pleaded guilty to burglary and theft by common scheme during a hearing in District Court in Musselshell County. Under a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to seek a five-year suspended sentence and restitution.
Aafedt acknowledged entering a house on June 28. Prosecutors said he took jewelry, clothing, knives, a money clip with a silver coin, a German eagle statue, a portable DVD player and a bank credit card. Investigators determined the jewelry had been pawned in Billings and Aafedt had used the stolen credit card. He was arrested in Billings in early July.
