A Lake County man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted deliberate homicide after a stabbing in Ronan.

Undersheriff Daniel Yonkin says 41-year-old Eugene M. Seyler was jailed without bond after being treated at a Kalispell hospital for serious injuries inflicted by the stabbing victim.

Ronan Police Chief Val Maxwell tells KERR-AM that someone reported the altercation at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

A 46-year-old man was taken to St. Luke Hospital in Ronan and underwent emergency surgery for what Maxwell said were life-threatening injuries.

Maxwell says after the stabbing, the victim grabbed a framing hammer and used it to fend off Seyler.

Maxwell and Yonkin say further investigation is needed to determine the motive in the stabbing. Officials have not interviewed the stabbing victim and are not releasing his name.
