There's a lot less water coming down Skalkaho Falls these hot, dry days. However, when you view it from the base of the waterfall, it seems like there's plenty. The falls are one of the major highlights of the Skalkaho Road between Hamilton and Philipsburg. The water is literally right next to the road and passes through a culvert under the road as it heads downhill.

One of the most photographed waterfalls in the valley, it's always a nice refreshing stop along the way, where you can stand in front the rushing water and feel the spray on your face. I feel cooler just thinking about it. To get there, drive south of Hamilton on US 93, take the Skalkaho turnoff and follow the road into the Bitterroot National Forest. Stay on the main Skalkaho Road, (which is not recommended for large vehicles). After the falls, you'll go over Skalkaho Pass and you'll eventually come to Philipsburg, Georgetown Lake, Anaconda and beyond.
