A Missoula County Public School teacher was recently awarded the Montana state reading council administrator’s reading award during the 2011 voices of literacy celebrating diversity conference in billings.   The award was presented to Bettsy Williams, Title III Bilingual Coordinator, for her commitment to enriching literacy education and for inspiring staff to strive for excellence in literacy instruction.

The award signifies and culminates Williams’ outstanding efforts in the classroom; the continued success of the summer tutor program; her commitment to all students with language barriers; and her more than 24 years of service with as an educator with MCPS.  In addition to her extensive responsibilities with the District, Williams continues to volunteer and coordinate for the Reading is Fundamental Program headquartered at Jefferson School in Missoula, providing a necessary service to hundreds of migrant children throughout the area.

Williams was nominated by a Missoula school administrator for the award in August 2011.
