Fire Information Officer for Lolo National Forest Boyd Hartwig told KGVO News that a new fire was spotted Thursday afternoon on the Missoula Ranger District.

The Deadman’s Gulch Fire is likely a lightning caused fire from Thursday's storm and is located approximately 2 miles east of Blue Mountain Lookout.

While the fire is currently less than one acre it is producing smoke visible from Missoula. No structures are threatened by this fire.

Two engines from the Lolo National Forest are currently engaging this fire and the rate of fire spread is low.

Hartwig said the rain, cooler temperatures and increased humidity are assisting firefighters. Fire officials will be looking for more starts from Thursday's lightning storm.
