Officials in Kalispell say a natural gas explosion destroyed a house on the south side of the city. No one was injured. Neighbors said the Saturday noontime explosion shook their houses. Some had broken windows and the ensuing fire melted the siding on a nearby house.

Bob Fleming says he was sitting in his recliner when he saw a huge flash and heard the explosion, followed by insulation raining down on the neighborhood. He says it looked like a snowstorm. Kalispell Fire Chief Dave Dedman says no one was home at the time of the explosion.

North Western Energy personnel shut off the gas so firefighters could fight the blaze.  Dedman says they also checked for leaks that might threaten other homes. The cause of the gas leak wasn't immediately known.
