A Butte-Silver Bow justice of the peace has pleaded not guilty to driving while under the influence of the narcotic methadone.

Judge Robert E. Lee was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Loren Tucker and allowed to remain free on court-ordered conditions.

KXLF-TV reports he will continue to serve as a justice of the peace.

Charges were filed against Lee on April 7. Prosecutors allege Lee drove his vehicle to the courthouse on Nov. 13 while under the influence of methadone, which is used to relieve pain or prevent the withdrawal symptoms of drug addiction.

The case is being prosecuted by the state attorney general's office.
