Dry temperatures and gusty winds carried a fire in the Jocko canyon to over 700 acres in just a matter of hours on Saturday, July 28. Smoke from the fire blanketed Missoula by the afternoon.

Information on the fire is still limited, but it is believed at this time that no structures are in immediate danger. Regardless, some individuals have been evacuated from scattered residences. The forest service portion of Jocko road has also been shut down.

The fire is thought to be likely human caused, though an investigation is still underway. On Sunday morning a type ii management team took over supervision of the fire.
