A new report issued by the Federal Trade Commission reveals relatively low rates of both fraud and identity theft reports in Montana.

For fraud, Montanans reported 3,729 cases. When averaged with other states per 100,000 people Montana ranks 39th out of the fifty states with 371 cases per 100,000. Florida tops the list for fraud with nearly double the number of cases per person.

When it comes to identity theft, Montanas reported 501 cases. When averaged out, there were 49.8 cases in Montana per 100,000 people. Montana ranked 47th on the list and only Hawaii, North Dakota and South Dakota reported fewer instances of identity theft.  Once again, Florida tops the list with more than seven times the number of identity theft reports per 100,000 people.
