The Frenchtown Fire Department was called out to a wildfire yesterday afternoon at around 2:00 p.m. Fire Department Spokesman Mel Holz Describes what happened.

"We had reports of heavy smoke in the Albear Creek area just off of southside road," Holz said. "Several units responded, both from Frenchtown Fire, DNRC, Forest Service and Missoula Rural. Upon getting some eyes on the smoke, it did look like it was pretty active. Upon responding up there, we did get a little rain, which definitely helped dampen things down. We also had help from two helicopters."

Holz says they were able to keep the fire to just an acre in size. Holz says the fire is almost certainly human caused, and that the fire is still under investigation.
