Host a Preparedness Party [AUDIO]

September is National Preparedness Month and the Governor’s Office of Community Service encourages all Montanans to take the time to make sure their homes, neighborhoods, and communities are prepared for emergencies and disasters of all kinds.

“I encourage Montanans to take a few simple steps this September to prepare their homes and communities for disasters,” said Governor Brian Schweitzer. “Assemble an emergency supply kit, talk to your family about what to do in case of a disaster, learn where to find information about emergencies, and get to know your neighbors who might need a little extra help.”

Montanans can get involved with National Preparedness Month by hosting a Neighborhood Preparedness Party in their community. These events bring communities together to learn about emergency preparedness and what to do in times of disaster. The Governor’s Office of Community Service will help sponsor Neighborhood Preparedness Parties by providing emergency supply kit starter bags and emergency preparedness resources. National Preparedness Month was founded after 9/11 to increase preparedness in the United States. Now in its ninth year, it is a nationwide, month-long effort hosted by the Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps, encouraging households, businesses and communities to prepare and plan for emergencies.

The Governor’s Office of Community Service expands and promotes national service and volunteerism in Montana and engages citizens in service and emergency preparedness.
