The annual Heart Expo is Saturday morning, April 13, 2013 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Missoula's St.Patrick Hospital.

Director of the International Heart Institute Foundation Tim Descamps said "the theme for this, the 10th annual Heart Expo, is 'taking charge of your heart health'."

"This has become a huge event with over a thousand people attending every year," Descamps said, "the secret here is that people actually start lining up outside the St. Patrick Hospital Broadway building as early as 5 a.m. Phlebotomists will start taking blood at 6:30 a.m., and we go until 11 o'clock."

Descamps said several inexpensive lab and health tests will. be conducted. Anyone requesting a cholesterol test must fast for 12 hours before blood is taken. "Cholesterol tests are only $5," Descamps said, " and other tests include prostate and thyroid for only $10 each."

Descamps said, "we are interested in providing the best care, and the best care is education, because you can take that education and manage your heart health." The event is free to the public.
