Hamilton High School student Candice Dunagan has been accepted to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. Dunagan is one of Senator Max Baucus’ 2011 academy nominees. A Congressional nomination is the first step for students looking to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Dunagan competes in volleyball, softball and rugby and excels in symphonic band, marching band, and pep band. She participated in the Hamilton High School Envirothon, was named to the National Society of High School Scholars in recognition of academic achievement and excellence, was named an All American Scholar for recognition of excellence in academic disciplines, attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Washington D.C., was nominated to attend the Global Young Leaders Conference in Germany, and was accepted to The University of Montana College of Technology while still attending Hamilton High School. Currently, she is a member of the Key Club, is a volunteer Sapphire Lutheran Home-Activities director, and is a batting coach for the 10-U girls softball team in Hamilton. On top of extracurricular activities in her school and community, Candice is employed year round.
