Authorities say one man has been hospitalized after a shooting early Saturday morning in Ravalli County.

NBC Montana says gunshots were heard by authorities near South Second Street around 3 a.m. in Hamilton.

While investigating, officers detained a 59-year-old male in the area and after that, a 911 call came in with information that a 29-year-old male was inside an apartment complex with a gunshot wound.

The Hamilton police chief says officers and deputies did good work.

"It was a little coincidental but it was you know, just the way things unfolded and they (the deputies) just happened to be outside and then in the area and were in a spot to be able to hear the gunshots when it occurred," said Hamilton Police Chief Ryan Oster.

Oster says that the 29-year-old male was transported to Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.

His condition at this time is unknown.

59-year-old Hamilton resident Monte Hanson was arrested and is charged with attempted deliberate homicide.
