CODY, Wyo. (AP) — People driving along the famous Beartooth Highway along the Montana-Wyoming state line will be asked to stop and take a survey this summer.

The group Friends of the Beartooth All-American Road is conducting the survey to find out how much the winding, high-elevation highway is worth to the region.

The Powell Tribune reports the group wants to calculate the amount of traffic on the highway and how much money the people who use the road are spending in Cody, Wyo., Cooke City, Mont., and Red Lodge, Mont.

Members of the group say they hope to persuade the Wyoming Department of Transportation to take over maintenance of the Wyoming portion of the highway.
