MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Montana's starting free safety has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief for breaking a directional sign after a night of drinking.

The Missoulian reports 21-year-old Matthew Brian Hermanson entered his plea in Justice Court on Monday and was fined $635.

Hermanson was arrested on Sept. 22 after a sheriff's deputy saw someone throw a large, white object onto the road. The sergeant found Hermanson, shirtless and bleeding, walking along the road.

Hermanson, a junior from Sioux Falls, S.D., was suspended from the football team for one game after his arrest.

Attorney Paul Ryan told Justice of the Peace John Odlin that Hermanson has written a letter of apology and replaced the damaged sign. He also settled an outstanding traffic ticket.
