Governor Steve Bullock's says his chief of staff will be leaving for a position at the Montana League of Cities and Towns.

Tim Burton served with Bullock for nearly six years during Bullock's time as attorney general and as governor.

Bullock says it's difficult to see Burton go, but he understands it's an opportunity Burton didn't want to pass up because his passion is local government.

Burton previously served nine years as Helena's city manager and five years as chief administrative officer for Lewis and Clark County. He will become executive director of the Montana League of Cities and Towns on Jan. 1.

Bullock says Montana Department of Environmental Quality Director Tracy Stone-Manning will take over as chief of staff.
